In a group of five, I did my first design research project with a qualitative user test by means of two semi-structured observations. This project was for the client Pleyade, a caring home. I designed Pettow, a pet-like pillow to reduce anxiety for people with dementia. During this project I learned to manage a project having a more leading role. Next to that, I learned about how to conduct design research.

I did research into several animal features; textures, warmth, heartbeat, breathing by means of the Pettow. The result was that warmth in combination with a playable texture was best in reducing anxiety, but breathing was also promising. In addition, there should be no tail and bigger ears to fiddle with.
